Kids and Swollen gums
Swollen gums can be acquired by anyone at any given age. This type of gum problem is caused by poor dental or oral hygiene. Looking at the mirror with your mouth wide open, you will notice that the affected area is visibly red and puffy or inflamed. If you have this gums problem, there will be times when you lose your appetite to eat because of the pain that you will feel everytime you eat and drink. The primary reason for this is because your teeth and gums become too sensitive to food or liquid intake.
Swollen gums can be a traumatic experience especially for kids. When their friends know that their gums are swollen, there is a great possibility that the child will be bullied or teased. If this happens, kids will lose their confidence in facing people. They will prefer to stay at home or lock themselves in the room. As parents, we do not want this to happen to our children. We loved them too much to see them in pain.
To avoid this kind of health problems as parents you can do something. You have a greater role in preventing your kids from acquiring swollen gums.
- Teach kids how to brush their teeth properly. Children want to learn new things especially when they its very interesting. They are more on the action or practically doing something. They want to be independent. Teaching them how to properly brush their teeth will give them a sense of responsibility. As parents, you have to explain to them the pros and cons if they do not brush their teeth. This does not mean to scare them but to make them aware that this kind of problem may arise if they ignore brushing.
- Teach them how to floss and it importance. Only few people see the importance of flossing. Some may think that brushing their teeth are already enough. Let your kids know that there are areas in your teeth that can’t be reach toothbrushes. There is also dirt that could stick in your mouth and the only way to remove it safely is through using dental floss.
- Don’t get scared when visiting a dentist. There are kids who are afraid of dentist. They think that everytime they see a dentist their tooth will get extracted. Explain to them that dentist’s is a friend. They know what to do with your tooth or gum problems. In this way they will not avoid your invitation to see a dentist.
